Meet Sam Honeck 
Prior to Tulane: Two-year starter at Grayson County College for coach Dusty Hart...helped lead the Vikings to a combined 78-36 record, including a 43-13 record in 2007 when Grayson won the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship and advanced to the NJCAA Region V playoffs...named first-team all-conference as a freshman after leading the team in home runs (eight), runs scored (49) and on-base percentage (.446), ranking second in RBI (44) and walks (30) while hitting .360...as a sophomore, claimed second-team all-conference honors after ranking second on the team in home runs (12) and doubles (18), third in hits (71), RBI (56), slugging percentage (.665) and walks (24), and fifth in batting average (.372)...off the diamond, was a member of the Dean's 4.0 List.
Summer Ball: Played for the Vienna Senators of the Clark Griffith Collegiate Baseball League in 2007...named No. 5 pro prospect in the CGCBL and claimed a spot on the All-CGCBL Team after tying for the league lead in home runs (10), ranking third in RBI (34), tying for fourth in runs scored (36) and finishing fifth in total bases (73)...lead the team in slugging percentage (.640), ranked second in total bases (73), and tied for third in batting average (.307) and doubles (eight)...also played two games on the mound, including a start, where he fanned four in 4.0 innings of work.
High School: Three-year letterman at Westlake High for coach Jim Darilek where he saw time at first base and on the mound...as a senior, named first-team all-district and second-team All-CenTex after hitting .455 with four home runs...also earned one letter in basketball.
Personal: Born Samuel Niles Honeck on June 19, 1987 in San Antonio, Texas...son of Jeff Honeck and Paula Biehler...has two brothers: Creighton and Ryan...brother, Creighton, plays collegiate golf at Arizona...drafted in the 50th round by the New York Yankees in 2006...majoring in chemical engineering.
