Quotes Following Baseball's 16-0 Sunday Win Over Oakland

March 16, 2008

Recap |  Final Stats

TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones

On not allowing a run over the weekend vs. Oakland
"We just pitched really well. We threw a lot of strikes and Coach Sutter called three great games. He had guys set up and they executed. We did a good job, especially on Saturday and Sunday, of getting runs early and stretching the lead. We also played well defensively all weekend."

On scoring in seven of the eight innings the team drew an at-bat
"We talk about winning every inning. That's a little easier said than done, but that's the goal each time. But when you do it, you start talking to guys and they realize that this is what can make us special."

On the performance of Tulane starter Robby Broach
"Robby Broach struggled with his command more than we wanted him to today. It's an area that he is going to continue to work hard on. He's had some really good outings for us and has been very competitive. But today, he struggled with his command. The good news is, he made pitches when he had to and let his defense work for him. A lot of guys get in that situation and not know how to get out of him. He certain did today."

On Seth Henry and his two home runs
"He had a good day. He's one of those guys who we need to have good days, and we'll keep our fingers crossed that he has more of them."

On the performance of Scott Powell
"Scotty is such a great kid. He works so hard, has been in this program for a while but hasn't had much success. But he's gotten better every year. He started to come on last fall. Preseason for him was solid, we've given him a shot and he took advantage of it. When you get a shot and you make the most of it, you're going to play. He really adds a new dimension for us."

JUNIOR OUTFIELDER Scott Powell

On having another good day in his second career start
"Basically, I came out again today not nervous. I just stuck with my approach, tried to play within myself and realize that if I get a good pitch to hit I'm going to try and hit it. I'm trying not to be too tight and not too nervous."

On the team's offensive production over the last week
"It's a common theme that we've had the last couple of days. We're all playing well and we're all having fun. We're all coming together as a group and we're having a good time. We're not going to be tight or nervous, and we're trying to not have to play from behind. We're just trying to basically just have fun and let the game take care of itself."

JUNIOR SECOND BASEMAN Seth Henry

On his performance at the plate
"I just saw good pitches, I had good pitches to hit and put good swings on them. Rob Segedin is the one who told me to go down bat sizes (from a 34 to a 33) and I guess I have a little more bat control. Looks like it was a good move."

On the team's offensive production of late
"We're just staying up. I think everyone has good positive energy and a very positive attitude. We're putting good swings on the ball right now and hitting is definitely contagious as you can see."

OAKLAND HEAD COACH JOHN MASACHIO

On not scoring in three straight games this weekend
"Tulane has an outstanding pitching staff. We do swing the bats pretty well, coming into the weekend hitting .315 and we hit .307 as a team last year. We hit a lot of balls right at people and they made a lot of great pitches. It was a tough weekend."

On what Oakland takes from the series
"This is the first time a lot of our kids have played in front of a big crowd. Looking at the conference tournament, which is in Tulsa, Okla., at Oral Roberts, they're going to have a big crowd. I think we'll be able to use this experience to be more poised in a conference tournament situation this year and move forward."
