TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
Overall thoughts on the game
"I thought Matt Petiton really pitched well, and that was encouraging. He changed the look from Shooter yesterday, big time. The thing that I was impressed with offensively was when they scored the two runs, we came right back with the two-out doubles to get the three runs, and then we started stretching the lead from there. Those rebound innings, where you come back after somebody scores, swings the momentum back into your favor. That was good to see. When you get as many hits as we did today, that's certainly encouraging. At that point in the game, you don't know how it's going to go. But that's the thing that really gave us some confidence."
On the performance of Matt Petition
"With the exception of the third inning, he managed the strikezone. He kept hitters off balance. I thought he mixed in a good change-up with a fastball that he spotted on both halves, and he minimized his pitches."
On why Petiton came out of the game after throwing only 62 pitches
"He had had to sit for a couple of long innings, and when he hit the mound (in the fifth) he was just a little sore underneath his arm. We just wanted to be cautious there and get some work to our bullpen."
On the Wave posting double-digit hits in 10 consecutive games
"We're seeing it pretty good right now. Guys are settling in pretty well. Tomorrow can be different and you don't win them all the same way."
On his team's performance down the stretch
"We've played well the last two days. We had two games get away from us in a row - Southern Miss last Sunday and LSU on Tuesday. We were a little bit of a club that had some questions when we came into town. It's good to see us have these two days. At the same time, the maturation process is still ongoing and I'm anxious to see how we play tomorrow. Certainly, Memphis is going to be fighting to take one out of this series and we haven't swept one all year. It's important for us to come out and play as well as he can play."
JUNIOR CENTERFIELDER Anthony Scelfo
On having five hits on Saturday
"I was having an awful day yesterday, but did well in my last two at-bats last night. I kind of built on that. I felt something, worked on it in BP and I happened to see the ball well. I got lucky today. I found some spots."
On making the adjustment to hit lefties better of late
"I had good swings and I saw the ball. I made a little adjustment. Against LSU on Tuesday we saw a lefty and we saw another today. I made a little adjustment from Tuesday and it happened to pay off today."
On the performance of the Green Wave offense so far this weekend
"This is awesome. We seem to have hit our stride. Hopefully, this keeps carrying on. We just need to keep building on it. The big thing is that everybody is making the adjustments. From at-bat to at-bat, we're making adjustments and you can see it's paying off."
