TULANE HEAD COACH Rick Jones
Overall thoughts on tonight's game
"Shooter pitched extremely well and we had some quality at-bats. I thought Mason Griffin did a great job when he came in afterwards and showed a lot of poise. And I thought Rob Segedin was tremendous. He got two quick outs. East Carolina is a really talented club, and he came back after giving up the three hits to get one of their top hitters to roll over a ball, and Josh Price made a great play there on a tough hop. What we did was we played well."
On the performance of junior centerfielder Anthony Scelfo
"He hit the ball harder than his numbers showed. He saw it well today and he put some good swings on it."
On starting the series on a positive note courtesy of the Friday night win
"You play three games, so this is one of them. The object is to win the one you're playing and we did that tonight."
JUNIOR RIGHT-HANDER Shooter Hunt
On his performance on the mound
"Coming in, we knew it was a big weekend and we really wanted to get it started off right on Friday. We hit really well early, got a lead on the board and that made it easy for me to go out there and protect it. It helps when you have runs up there to sit back on."
On not allowing multiple base runners in any of his seven innings
"I was trying to contain it, keep the runners there and not let them move around. You can only concentrate on what's going on right now. That hit already happened and that walk already happened. The guy at the plate was the only guy I tried to worry about."
On how big tonight's win was
"I can't really say how big it is right now. But I'm sure if we keep it going, we can look back to tonight and look at it as a big day for us."
On if he drew inspiration from anything tonight
"I was watching TV today in the hotel, and `For Love Of The Game' was on. Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner's character in the movie) was throwing really well, and when it came down to crunch time, I felt I had to grit up. I saw Billy Chapel grit up and that was all I was trying to do."
