2003: Named Tulane's Special Teams MVP after playing nearly every play on special teams. Recorded 11 tackles (eight solo). Registered three tackles in two games, the win over Northwestern State (9/6) and the defeat of Army (9/20). Recovered a fumble against Navy (11/1). 2002: Played in all 13 games on special teams, recording eight tackles (five solo). Played on the kickoff coverage and punt coverage units. Posted a season-high four tackles (three solo) against Navy (10/26). Received a lateral from Lynaris Elpheage on a punt return against UAB (10/19), taking it the final 21 yards to the end zone for his first career touchdown. 2001: Played in the final 10 games of the season as a true freshman, mostly on special teams. Recorded nine tackles (six solo). Posted three tackles against Navy (11/10) and also had a pair of takedowns against TCU (10/13). HIGH SCHOOL: Used primarily at running back as a senior after playing two years in the secondary. An all-city and all-district selection as a senior. Berkner advanced to the state quarterfinals in 2000. Prep career totals include 138 tackles, three interceptions and eight touchdowns. As a senior, ran the ball 80 times for 577 yards, a 6.4-yard average, despite missing three games with injury. Also scored five touchdowns and made 15 catches for 168 yards. Playing primarily on defense as a junior in 1999, credited with 90 tackles. Sacked opposing quarterbacks eight times and scored one defensive touchdown. Tied for the District 19-5A sophomore of the year award in 1998 with 28 tackles and three interceptions. Coached by Jim Ledford. Ran track and competed in the regionals in powerlifting.
