Alan Frey comes to Tulane for 2006-07 after serving the last two years as an assistant coach for the Loyola (New Orleans) University men's team, where his duties included recruiting, on-the-court instruction and practice implementations. Frey also brings with him 15 years of head coaching experience at the Amateur Athletic Union level where he has served as the head coach of the Kenner Angels and helped his team reach 13 AAU Final Fours and five National Championships since 1992. "Alan is one of the finest AAU coaches in the country," Stockton said. "He has a tremendous reputation as a quality coach as well as a great motivator. I have known Alan and followed his teams since I have been at Tulane and have always been impressed by how well his teams perform. I know Alan will be a great asset to our program." The 1997 AAU National Coach of the Year, Frey has an overall record of 425-67 overall and a 138-25 mark at the national tournament. In the 1996 Junior Olympics, his team captured the gold medal. Frey's teams have amassed 15 Louisiana State AAU titles in as many years with a 79-1 record at the state tournament. This year, the Kenner Angels finished third in the AAU National Champion in Orlando, Fla., with a 35-2 overall record and a 10-1 record in the championship tournament. He served as an assistant coach for Team Louisiana at the U.S. Junior Nationals from 1987-92, and the 1990 squad won the USJN championship. Frey also served as an assistant coach (1984-1991) and head coach (1992-2004) for the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department All-Stars where he helped the club win 13 International Championship from 1984-2004. One of the top AAU coaches in the nation over the past 15 years, Frey has helped over 50 of his players earn Division I scholarships, including former Tulane standouts Sarah Goree, Salome Hector, Mary Ann Marino and Lacey Vicknair-Momic. In addition, five of his former players have gone on to play in the WNBA - Vickie, Niesa and Temeka Johnson, Yolanda Moore and Detrina White. "I'm definitely looking forward to working with Coach Stockton," Frey said. "I've watched her success at Tulane over the year. I hope to learn from her and help this program get back into the NCAA Tournament." A 1983 graduate of nearby Jesuit High School, Frey received his bachelor's degree in history from the University of New Orleans in 1988. Frey has spent his professional career managing not-for-profit organizations in New Orleans. He has been the executive director of the Louisiana Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since July 2000. Frey is married to the former Karen Halley of Metairie.
