Langford's Log: Respect, Reporters and More Road Games
Feb. 14, 2007
NEW ORLEANS - Our winning streak stretched to nine after two wins last week against University of Memphis and University of Alabama-Birmingham. The UAB victory was very important because took first place by ourselves in Conference USA and we are now one step closer to getting a first round bye in the Conference USA tournament. Receiving a bye in the first round is advantageous because we have one less game to play in route to the Conference championship, and allows us to rest more. Today I was asked by a reporter why isn't Tulane getting the respect it may deserve; he was referring to the fact that we could finish the season 27-5 and still not get a NCAA tournament bid. His question made me think about Tulane's past teams and their successes. Our team has all the parts of a championship team, but I do not think that the rest of the basketball world knows it yet. This underdog attitude that people may have towards us only motivates us more. We look up at the banners in Fogelman Arena and hope to put a 2007 one up next to those. This week we are on the road...again! We are traveling to West Virginia to play Marshall University on Thursday and then we are off to North Carolina to battle East Carolina University on Saturday. Both of these teams play great at home, so these two games will be interesting. One of the hardest things about playing on the road is the opponents' crowds. Crowds are effective and motivating, thus we need to jump on these teams from the beginning and not let their fans get too involved. Wish us luck in these two road games, and we will be back in Fogelman Arena to take on SMU and Tulsa next week. Oh and HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!! Roll Wave,
Deuce
