2007 DoubleTree Classic Tournament Central

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane Green Wave return to the floor Thursday after a 15-day layoff as the women's basketball team plays host to the Tulane DoubleTree Classic on Thursday and Friday. Tulane (7-2) meets Robert Morris at 6 p.m., followed by Virginia Tech vs Texas-San Antonio at 8 p.m. Tulane's Ashley Langford was the 2006 DoubleTree MVP.

The Green Wave meet the 3-6 Colonials of Robert Morris Thursday 15 days after a 74-65 win at Rhode Island on Dec. 5. Langford scored 17 points and added seven assists to move within five assists of Tulane's career record.

Sophomore guard Chassity Brown scored a career-high 17 points over Rhody in her first start of the season. She also grabbed seven rebounds, earning Louisiana Sports Writer's Association Player of the Week Honors for Dec. 3-9 for her performance.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (8-2) of the ACC take on the Texas-San Antonio Road Runners (6-2) of the Southland Conference in the night cap Thursday.

On Friday, the consolation game takes place at 5 p.m., while the winners of Thursday's games meet in the 7 p.m. championship.

The Green Wave have won nine of the previous 11 DoubleTree events, posting a 20-2 record. Tulane is the defending champs, with Ashley Langford as reigning MVP. She recorded a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the final against Texas-Arlington. Only two players (Tulane's Grace Daley and Janell Burse) have won the MVP twice.

Tulane's 1996 DoubleTree MVP Barbara Farris, fifth on Tulane's all-time scoring list, will join the Green Wave as an interim assistant coach, filling in for Shanna Cook, who is on a medical leave of absence until mid-January. From 1994-1998, Farris scored 1,826 earning All-America honorable mention honors in 1997 before moving on to the WNBA. She played for the New York Liberty last season.
